About
Come join us at this symposium on Careers: Beyond the thesis and the academy
Deadline for registration: July 15, 2016
The SIG aims to promote research and theory development in the area of researcher education and careers, both academic and non-academic. This symposium is designed to stimulate discussion about the theoretical and methodological challenges underlying research into the experiences of those post-PhD whatever their career trajectories. As in our inaugural meeting in Barcelona 2014, we have chosen a novel approach which integrates ideas that emerged from the SIG meeting in Cyprus in August.
We begin with an optional writing retreat (September 17-18). Then, the symposium convenes late in the day on September 18 and the following two days are structured to provide opportunities to learn together. Through keynotes and workshops on less common and novel conceptual and methodological approaches to examining post-PhD experience, our goal is to encourage dialogue and research.
On each of the two days, there will be a keynote and concurrent workshops that offer a range of less common ways of researching the experiences of early career researcher, e.g., conceptual and methodological challenges as well as benefits of a) using social media for research, b) doing cross-cultural research, c) using a longitudinal mixed-methods approach. We are planning five workshops and you will have the opportunity to choose two.
In order to register, you will complete a short form, a type on intellectual biography, which will be uploaded to a password-protected site. Once you have submitted your form, you will be sent a password so that you can enter and read the bios from the other participants.
