Porto, Portugal
Porto is located along the Douro river estuary in northern Portugal and it is the second-largest city of the country. Besides, Porto is also one of the most prominent urban areas in Southern Europe. Varied historical monuments including the Romanesque Cathedral Sé, the typical Portuguese Manueline-style Church of Santa Clara and the D. Luis emblematic iron bridge, represent some of the city cultural richness. Within its cultural richness, you can also find, among other places of reference, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Serralves gardens, Soares dos Reis Museum and the Palacio de Cristal building and gardens.
Porto’s historic centre is the Ribeira area, an awarded area by World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1996. Ribeira was originally the centre of commerce for the city, with big ships docking there. In the riverside area, close to Cais da Ribeira, people can find a number of small cafes where it is possible to enjoy a drink and the view to the river before continuing to explore Porto. The charm of Porto city is extensive to all over the city, between more ancient and traditional areas and more modern spaces (Foz do Douro, Batalha, Clérigos, Aliados, …). Porto is also inseparable of its wine tradition. It ports have been responsible for the production and export of 'Port Wine' and riverside wine caves with cellars open for tastings (and for listen to its story being told) are considered one of the “must do” experience, when visiting Porto.

Getting to Porto
Porto city is served by the Sá Carneiro International Airport. Sá Carneiro has regular flights from Faro and Lisbon, in Portugal, as well as direct flights from several cities around the world.
Besides taxi services and the road link, there are several public transportation connections available from the Sá Carneiro International Airport to downtown Porto:
- Subway - The airport is served by Line E of the Porto Metro. This service links the airport to downtown Porto.
- Bus - STCP buses also link the airport and the city. There is also a bus that operates all night from the airport to downtown Porto.
Restaurants
Land of sea, plains and mountains, Porto gastronomy is as diverse as the landscape where its ingredients are produced and tasted. And it has a wide variety of dishes (of fish, sea food, meat or regional and convent-made confectionery), cooked with local ingredients.
While in Porto, you must taste some traditional local specialties, namely Francesinha and Tripas à Moda do Porto. Also in Porto, there are good fish dishes, particularly codfish (bacalhau), for example Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá, Bacalhau à Brás, Bacalhau à Zé do Pipo, and other variations. Caldo verde is a northern portuguese typical kale soup that you can taste in many traditional restaurants. The cities of Matosinhos and Leça (neighbors of Porto city), are widely known thanks to its various restaurants that transform the confection of fresh fish that comes from the local fish markets, into an art (caldeirada, which is a fish stew with several fishes, is a good option).
