State of the Art and Country Background Research

This document is one of the outcomes of the "ATHENA BEGIN "1 project and is divided into two parts:

PART I) A state of the art regarding gender-based violence and more specifically domestic violence among groups at risk, particularly girls, adult and older women with intellectual disabilities; and

PART II) A country background Investigation into national laws and reports on this topic from partner countries that seek to identify similarities and significant differences between partner countries in relation to the representation of and responses to this group of victims.

Needs Analysis

The document summarises the main results of the data collection process in each partner country (Portugal, Spain and Greece) regarding their needs according to their own perceptions. Both results and data analysis will be presented together, integrating information from all countries. This analysis aims to identify the main challenges in terms of knowledge and skills raised by professionals and informal carers of people with intellectual disabilities to effectively support this vulnerable group. The aim of this report is to serve as a basis for the development of specific materials for seminars and training that can overcome the limitations identified by professionals, caregivers and persons with intellectual disabilities who are/were victims of gender-based violence.
